Professional Development Program

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do I need to take Film Commission Fundamentals if I have already taken it?

If you have taken Film Commission Fundamentals in the past, you don’t have to take it or The Film Commission Professional again to be eligible to take Master Classes or to enroll in the Certification Program. However, since the Professional course has been expanded and enhanced, you may want to consider taking it as a refresher course.

I'm a new commissioner but have been working in the industry a long time. Can I skip Film Commission Fundamentals and just take Film Commission Professional?

No.  In order for The Film Commission Professional to be as useful as possible to you, it’s important that everyone take the course to obtain the same basic skills and knowledge.

Do I have to work for a Film Commission to take the class?

Anyone can enroll in Film Commission Fundamentals, The Film Commission Professional or the Master Classes. The Certification Program is available only to those associated with AFCI Member Commissions.

It is not necessary to be working toward the CFC designation to enroll in a course. Each individual CFC course is an excellent learning opportunity focusing on a specialized area in the film commission profession.

When are the courses given?

The Film Commission Fundamentals course can be taken online at any time (available July 1).  The Film Commission Professional will be offered in association with major AFCI events such as Cineposium and Location Trade Show and other industry events worldwide. Master Classes will initially be offered with Cineposium and Locations Trade Show.

How do I find out when classes are scheduled?

You will be notified by AFCI when courses are scheduled. In addition, information will be posted on the AFCI website here. You can also contact the AFCI office at any time for up-to-date information. Please also see Cineposium International Conference 2007 for more information.

How much do the classes cost?

The costs of each class will be determined based on costs associated with the location in which each course is offered.  Please see Cineposium International Conference 2007 for information inprograms and costs for 2007 courses.

How were the courses developed and who will be teaching them?

These courses were developed by AFCI staff members in association with the AFCI Board of Directors, the Education Development Task Force, the Education Committee and many AFCI member volunteers. Professionals working in many different fields were used for the development of course content and will teach the courses.  Considerable time and assistance was given to the program by a large number of film commission staff members from around the world who participated in the development and refinement of class content.  Specific topics of study were selected based on surveys of AFCI commissions, as well as on comments provided on evaluation forms from previous Film Commission Fundamentals courses and Cineposium

The AFCI gratefully acknowledges the contributions of all those AFCI members who worked on the development and creation of its educational program.  They graciously gave their time and attention to this important initiative in the past and will continue to do so in the future as it continues to evolve and grow to meet the ever-changing demands of the industry.
