AFCI University at Cineposium 09
The Association of Film Commissioners International is the premier provider of professional development opportunities through the AFCI University which administers a series of educational programs that include foundation and master classes, continuing education opportunities and the AFCI Certified Film Commissioner program. These initiatives are designed to provide necessary knowledge and valuable skills essential for everyone involved in the film commission community. Cineposium 09 in Universal City, California, will feature three professional development courses, all highly valuable for both the novice and the experienced film commissioner.

This one-day foundation course is the face-to-face companion to Film Commission Fundamentals Online (FCF), our introduction to film commission work.* Film Commission Professional (FCP) builds on the information presented in Film Commission Fundamentals by providing more indepth information on several of the most important elements involved in film commission work. Together, these two courses are particularly useful for film commission staff members, community liaisons, government officials, and anyone interested in starting acommission.** The course will be taught usinglecture and small group sessions with information about marketing, economic impact, and alliances and partnerships. |

Understanding how films are created, made and distributed is an important aspect of being a film commissioner. This course will look at the most important aspects offilmmaking including finding and using material, working with writers, raising financing, getting a green light, shooting a movie, post production, distribution, marketing, technology changes that have an effect on all aspects of movie production, and the future of the industry as it relates to technology.
As film commissions, you set the gold standard for leadership in the film industry. Every day, your work touches many different types of individuals in the entertainment world, and you must be able to develop and implement various skills and strategies that encourage positive behavior. This course will provide an examination of various leadership skills with an emphasis on promoting effective and efficient ways to improve film commission operations and performance. Topics include: Effective leadership styles, negotiations for Film Commissioners; problem solving and conflict resolution, interpersonal skills, and industry ethics.
