The film industry in Phoenix experienced a 65 percent job growth during the 2007-2008 fiscal year. The increase was a result of more than 540 projects shot by both local production companies and out-of-state companies that selected Phoenix for filming. Overall the film industry had a $23,918,788 economic impact on the Greater Phoenix area.
The Phoenix Film Office issued 167 film permits which resulted in 1,582 shooting days, 3,976 freelance jobs (trained technical crew and talent) and 4,159 hotel nights. Commercials and still photography, the main staple behind the local film industry, witnessed an increase in employment by 51 percent while, total dollars spent increased by 44 percent to more than $11 million.
“The Phoenix film industry remains strong and vibrant despite a struggling economy and labor pains in Hollywood,” said Phoenix Film Office Program Manager Phil Bradstock. “Film production revenues illustrate that Phoenix is an ideal location for film, TV, commercial and still photo shoots.”
Feature films shot in Phoenix this fiscal year included “Farlanders,” “Twilight,” “The Graves” and more. Television projects included “Last Comic Standing,” “Super Nanny,” “Vanished” and “Project X.” Commercials and print productions included Dodge, Ford, Nestle Cereal, United Way, BMW, Disney and more.
